Washington DC Launch

The Washington, D.C. news conference to release the Lancet series on newborn survival was held at the National Press Club on March 3, 2005. Cokie Roberts moderated a panel of leading international public heath experts. Speakers included Faith McLellan, North American Editor of The Lancet; Vinod Paul, senior advisor to the Indian Government on Maternal and Newborn Health; Anne Tinker, Director of the Saving Newborn Lives initiative at Save the Children; and Jacques Baudouy, Director of Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank’s Human Development Network. More than 150 attendees from the media and child survival and global health communities participated in the event. The news conference resulted in widespread media coverage in the U.S., including coverage in the Washington Post, Boston Globe, the New York Times, ABC Radio, Voice of America, and stories from the Associated Press and United Press International. The Associated Press story ran in multiple newspapers nationwide.
